Make the Dream Work
Centering the Child
Without Sidelining Caregivers
If you work with kids, you work with caregivers. That might be moms, dads, grandparents, aunties, uncles, neighbors. No matter what the support system looks like, the child is your client. How do you effectively engage caregivers and continue to center your child clients?
Let’s take time to clarify your role and scope so you can gracefully navigate requests and advocate for your client. We’ll make sure you’ve got the recipe for building strong rapport with caregivers without losing focus on the kiddo. Parents hold all their hopes, dreams, and fears for their kid and sometimes that can be delivered to you with urgency. Instead of taking on a parent directed agenda, narrow in on how your work centers the kiddo and supplements the big work of caregiving:
Get the support you need to recruit parents as teammates, working with you to support their child.
Coach parents to more clearly evaluate their child’s needs and successes.
Provide recommendations and strategies that will enrich their experience of parenting, increase their agency, and support your ability to be in service to the child.
